EDUCATION: Mathematics Week in schools, colleges and high schools

0

From March 6 to 15, Maths Week takes place. This year the theme is “Mathematics à la carte”. Students  schools, colleges and high schools in Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin, as in previous years, will live this week from various “menu cards”.

Thus various actions around the theme "Mathematics à la carte" (treasure map and geometry, numbers and card games, restaurant menu, etc.) will be carried out within classes and schools to enhance the attractiveness of mathematics.

Recall that this  week aims to:

Propose a current, lively and attractive image of mathematics.

Insist on the importance of mathematics in the education of citizens and in their daily lives (numbers, shapes, measurements, digital sciences).

Present the diversity of professions in which mathematics plays an important or essential role as well as the wealth of links between mathematics and other disciplines (physics, chemistry, life sciences, environment, computer science, economics and social sciences, geography, etc.) .).

Develop in the students the taste for effort, perseverance, the will to progress, respect for others, for oneself and for the rules: all values shared by sport and mathematics.

Show that the practice of mathematics can be a source of emotions of an aesthetic nature (elegance of a theory, a formula, a reasoning) in order to reveal the link between mathematics, pleasure and creativity.

A padlet, bringing together some resources to be implemented from cycle 1 to cycle 3, has been developed  by the mathematics referents Gaëlle Beaufour and Stéphanie Brouwers and the mathematics coordinator, Valérie Siobud:
