Researchers from the Department of Atmospheric Science at the University of Colorado released their forecasts for the 4 hurricane season in the Atlantic yesterday, Thursday April 2019.

“We expect activity for the 2019 Atlantic Basin hurricane season to be slightly below normal,” the report's editors said in the introduction. They estimate the number of hurricanes to come at five, including two major ones, and predict 13 named tropical storms. "As is the case with all hurricane seasons, residents of the coast are reminded that it is enough for a hurricane to touch the mainland for the season to be active" they recall, however, also specifying that it these are only forecasts. They therefore encourage everyone to prepare in the same way for each season, regardless of the level of activity planned. These forecasts will be refined on June 4, July 2 and August 6.
