The fish market must be brought up to standards

At the end of November, the executive council decided to bring the fish market located on the seafront at Marigot up to standard. The community will request European subsidies to finance the project, the cost of which is not yet estimated.

This decision follows an inspection report from the directorate of agriculture and forestry made a month earlier.

During this control, several "non-conformities" in terms of food safety were noted. As of December 31, 2018, the local authority was given notice to take “corrective measures” on the market. In particular, it must repair the deteriorated tiles in certain places, install a soap dispenser and an ice maker because fish and other fishing products must be covered with ice, which is not the case today. It must also provide a place to allow fishermen to scale, gut and slice the fish. (Illustrative photo.
