We almost forgot that it existed: the tiger mosquito, vector
dengue and chikungunya, is less present on the territory. The situation is no longer worrying for the Northern Islands, unlike that in mainland France.

The latest epidemiological bulletin from the Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS) and the territorial delegate of the Health Agency (ARS) Pascal Godefroy confirm it: the situation has been calm for several weeks in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy concerning consultations for dengue or chikungunya. On the other hand, in metropolitan France, the number of suspected cases is increasing: 331 cases have been reported (from May 1 to July 17), reports the institute. 20 departments are also on red alert.

The chikungunya epidemic in figures
At the end of June, the ARS and the regional unit of the InVS organized a seminar on chikungunya in Guadeloupe in order to take stock.

For Saint-Martin:
- 1st “explosive” wave then resurgence at the end of 2014
- estimated total number: 5 cases, ie nearly 400% of the population;
- duration: 67 weeks with a peak at the end of February (360 cases);
- 40 hospitalized cases, including 4 severe forms and 3 deaths.
