Road safety / Two wheels, quads and group driving in Saint-Barthélemy: mistrust, mistrust!

ATTENTION!

• Traffic is intense, especially during this period of high activity on the island,

• the coating becomes slippery in the event of rain,

• the roads are winding,

• there are work areas,

• there are steep slopes between 15 and 20% in places.

Tips for a safer road:

For driving mopeds:

- do not sneak between cars,

- do not change lanes suddenly,

- respect the priority rules,

- systematically report changes of direction,

- never pass on the right,

- respect the speed limits.

For driving quads, you must be aware:

- that the driving of the quad is neither that of a car nor that of a motorcycle,

- that the reactions of this all-terrain quadricycle are brutal,

- that overturning may occur in the event of insufficient control of the machine during climbs, descents, over obstacles or turns,

- that it is therefore preferable to have experience driving these machines before renting them.

For group driving, special care should be taken:

- maintaining safety distances, a fall or poor negotiation of the trajectory of one which could lead to chain effects,

- At any change of "line": stay in your place within the group, without surprising either by accelerations or by unforeseeable changes of axes of the other members of the group,

- systematic use of indicators and lights.
