Former urban planning director recognizes illegal taking of interest in real estate transaction

The case called for the February 20 hearing was postponed due to the lawyers' strike. This is a case of fraud against a background of tax exemption involving three people: the developer, the architect and the real estate agent.

A fourth person is involved in this case, it is José Carti, the former director of town planning within the Community. He is accused of illegal taking of interest.

The judge and the vice-prosecutor specified that he had meanwhile accepted a CRPC, an appearance on prior conviction, that is to say a plea-guilty hearing.

On a personal level, José Carti was associated with his partner - who is the architect's aunt - in an LLC, which notably had shares in the company which carried the real estate project. As an official employed in the urban planning department of the COM, he issued the building permit. He was therefore directly interested in the smooth running of the operation. However, combining the two functions is prohibited by law.

José Carti admitted the facts and was fined 10 euros in tort last month.(soualigapost.com)
