Possession of weapons and 460 ammunition: the court pronounces a penalty of days-fine

During a search in the context of a case at the end of September, the gendarmes discovered at EL's home in Grand Case a dozen weapons and 460 ammunition. EL was immediately the subject of proceedings for possession of weapons without authorization. He was summoned to the local court of Saint-Martin in early October but his lawyer asked for a delay to prepare the defense. EL therefore returned to the bar on November 3.

A large part of the weapons was in a safe that only EL has the code to open, and the other part in a locked cabinet. EL explains that some weapons belong to his brother that he entrusted to him after Irma's passage, because his house having been destroyed, he wanted to put them in safety. Some weapons also come from their father.

What intrigued the court was the presence of loaded Magnum-type revolvers, "ready for use". "Why were they loaded? Did you intend to use them? », Two questions that the judges ask repeatedly and to which they obtain answers which do not satisfy them. EL had told the gendarmes that it was his brother who sometimes took up arms to kill monkeys, but that he also sometimes killed iguanas to eat them.

After deliberation, the court handed down a fine of 240 days to 10 euros, confiscation of weapons (except category D weapons) and a ban on holding a weapon for five years.
