The second phase of the development work on the Baie de l'Embouchure, and more specifically the Baie du Galion, will begin in mid-June 2022. This phase of the work is financed by the Conservatoire du littoral, in partnership with the Collectivité of Saint-Martin, site manager.

This project involves restoring natural spaces accessible to the public and creating a playground for children near the beach.

The first phase of work, carried out in 2020 and 2021, included the cleaning and clearing of the 18 hectares of land affected by this development. The work also made it possible to restore degraded areas, and to plant 350 trees and shrubs of species native to the West Indies.

Wooden blocks have been planted to delimit the natural spaces around the beach and protect them from motor vehicles. The installation of new signage, by the end of 2022, will complete this first development phase.

The second phase of work will begin on June 13, it will consist of installing picnic huts with family tables, a recreation area with two fully equipped volleyball courts, and a play area for children. . A new planting phase will complete this work and will be finalized at the beginning of next year.

The chosen layouts blend into the natural landscape, and obey a logic of quality and lightness of the materials used. They can be dismantled and can be upgraded, thus the natural aspect of the site is preserved and the public can take full advantage of them.

The total cost of this development amounts to 1 euros financed by the State. It is an integral part of a global environmental policy that promotes sustainable tourism development.

The landscaping of Galion Bay is one of the first joint projects between the Conservatoire du Littoral and the Collectivity of Saint-Martin. Other sectors will benefit from this partnership, in particular ponds and mangroves which will be the subject of a protection and enhancement programme.
