Following the passage of Hurricane Irma, the damage on land and at sea is significant. At sea, numerous shipwrecks and a lot of waste (wood, sheets, etc.) make this area potentially dangerous for navigation and nautical activities. A certain number of actions are therefore carried out in the Maritime domain.

A first inventory was made with the Territorial Unit of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy and the opinion given by the Directorate of the Sea on February 07, 2018 allowed us to lift the ban on activities nautical on certain bodies of water within the territorial jurisdiction by order of the President (N ° 021-2018).

A second, more precise inventory is currently being carried out by the Community and the Port Establishment on the lagoon and the bodies of water frequented by the population and tourists.

To this end, a team of approved divers is currently identifying waste or wrecks sunk or buried in the sand, signaling them using numbered buoys in particular and finally evaluating possible solutions with a view to their salvage. .

To date, in addition to the lagoon, the water bodies of the beaches of Galisbay, Petite Plage, Grand-Case, Orient-Baie and soon Friar's Bay, have been inspected.

With the exception of the shipwrecks which will require more specific and complex treatment, most of the water bodies checked have been cleaned with regard to the little waste present or will be subject to further cleaning as in Grand-Case.

Concerning the beach of Grand-Case, in the zone included from the cemetery to the pontoons, a more important cleaning will be carried out in the next days and until then we ask our bathers to be careful.

The Community and the Port Establishment make your security a priority.
