The reconstruction of Saint-Martin after Irma is a major undertaking. Construction companies will be in great demand. "I sent a letter to the co-ownership trustees to give priority to local businesses," says Jean Arnell, the president of the Interprofessional Chamber of Saint Martin (CCISM). CCISM.

"Our local companies must establish partnerships with external companies, by partnership I mean to call on subcontractors, because we do not have all the skills locally necessary", conceives Jean Arnell.

"On condition that they are sufficiently structured".

"The Guadeloupe Chamber of Trades also offered to help us," adds Maggy Gumbs, the CCISM director. "She offers to send artisans to support our businesses," she says.

"We have to employ local workers," insists Dorvan Cocks, vice-president, while admitting "a skills gap." For him, reconstruction could be an opportunity to train young people.
