JUSTICE: A homeless man sentenced to prison for violence with a knife

0

At the beginning of February, on a Thursday in the middle of the day, the market controller in Marigot asked a homeless man not to take a passage on the site. The SDF reacts badly and pulls out a knife. At the same time, gendarmes on patrol saw the scene and intervened immediately.

The individual, 56-year-old JR, is arrested. He was summoned the next day to the local court of Saint-Martin but asked for a delay to prepare his defense. His trial took place yesterday. At the helm, the controller explained that on the day of the incident, he was called by itinerant traders because JR, who can be aggressive, is present on the market. The COM agent steps in and sees "his death up close" when J.R. pulls out a large knife. For his part, JR explains that he wanted to "defend himself because the agent had taken out his foldable truncheon".

After deliberating, the court pronounced a sentence of eight months in prison, continued detention, a ban on possessing a weapon for four years and a stay in Saint-Martin for five years. JR should be taken care of by the penitentiary services and receive help to be able to be transferred to mainland France. The court also received the civil part of the controller; JR must compensate him up to 500 euros for non-pecuniary damage.

The prosecutor also indicated that she was going to prosecute him for the outrages and insults he uttered against the controller during the hearing. (soualigapost.com)
