Justice: They sent cocaine to Australia by post

0

During an inspection at La Poste de Concordia on September 30, 2013, customs officials discovered more than one kilo of cocaine inside a package destined for Australia.

The individual who posted this package was arrested on October 14, 2013 at La Poste in the Quartier d'Orléans when he was about to send another one to Australia, this time containing 730 g of cocaine.

Placed in custody, RG, born in 1972 in Saint Lucia, admits having sent six packages, or about seven kilos, from the various post offices of Saint-Martin, under the orders of a certain Joseph. But ensures not to have participated in the preparation of said packages or in the drafting of slips. He also says he ignores their content and has not received financial compensation for the service provided. He will be placed in pre-trial detention for four months and then under judicial supervision.

The investigation will reveal that the man who calls himself Joseph is actually NK, born in 1974 in Nigeria. He was arrested on October 24, 2013 and placed in police custody. He admits to having deposited RG at La Poste on October 14 but says that it is the only time. he

first denies being Joseph. According to him, RG, who identified him during his police custody, confused. Yet investigators find evidence that NK calls himself Joseph. To explain the contradictions between his statements and the evidence gathered by investigators, he told the court that he panicked. But he puts everything else on Augustine's back, a friend he was hosting at the time of the events. However, except for an (authentic) passport in Augustin's name found at NK's home during a search, nothing confirms that Augustin stayed in Saint-Martin, or even that he exists. On the other hand, after verification, it is indeed the writing of NK which appears on the delivery slips of the packages. Investigation further reveals that he sent over $ 8000 to Nigeria in nine times, and received a total of $ 12 from Australia.

RG and NK, placed under judicial supervision, were summoned to the Criminal Court of Saint Martin on Thursday, April 19. Only NK showed up. The court found them guilty and sentenced them respectively to 30 months in prison, 15 of which were suspended, and three years in prison, two of which were suspended. He received the constitution of civil party of the customs and condemns jointly the two defendants to 250 euros fine.
