JUSTICE: "Punitive expedition" to recover a stolen scooter

0

In early August, JD and JL believe they recognize their friend's stolen two-wheeler in the parking lot of a convenience store in Quartier d'Orléans. On a scooter too, they decide to go get it. The next morning, JD is at work when a car, with five people on board, approaches. One of them, LBM, threatens him with a weapon to give him what he has, then MC gets out of the vehicle and pricks JD with his knife comb. A third individual, DG, comes out and hits the attendant with a baseball bat. CM goes down and kicks JD. Only the driver remains on board. The four young men tear off the bag worn on the shoulder by JD and run away.

The five individuals (all except the driver of the car) are prosecuted: JD and JL for theft in meeting of the scooter in front of the supermarket, LBM, MC, CM and DG for aggravated theft (violence and in meeting) of the bag. JD and LBM are also being prosecuted for possession of weapons.

Aged 27, 23 and 22, JD, LBM and JL were presented Friday morning before the criminal court of Saint Martin in immediate appearance; the rest will be tried on September 11.

The court imposed sentences of one year and two years in prison against JD and LBM (whose girlfriends are pregnant) as well as a ban on holding a weapon subject to authorization for five years. Deposit warrants have been issued; the two young men were transferred to prison in Guadeloupe the same afternoon. JL was given a six-month suspended prison sentence.

Finally, JD joined the civil party for the acts of aggression, the case was remitted on civil interest. (source: soualigapost.com)
