0

Faced with the scale of the Sargassum seaweed phenomenon that currently affects the territory, the prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and St-Martin and the Collectivity of St-Martin are implementing an action plan.

To respond to the emergency, the Collectivity carried out the first pick-ups at the beginning of the week, prioritizing the bay of Cul de Sac. They will continue throughout the week on Lucas Bay and on Mont Vernon beach (northern part of Orient Bay). To respond to the emergency, the Collectivity requested the intervention of companies in order to collect the algae with mechanical means.

The state services under the guise of the environment, planning and housing department, commit the sum of 370 euros allocated for this purpose.

This investment subsidy is intended for the acquisition of heavy equipment for collection. This funding consists of 185 euros allocated by the French Overseas Ministry (MOM) and 375 euros from the French Ministry of Ecological Transition and Solidarity (MTES).

50% of this funding is available for immediate allocation.
