Justice: Five years in prison including three suspended for the author of the shooting at the JL Vanterpool stadium

The facts had aroused great emotion: on November 9, 2019, a young person was shot and wounded while attending a football match in the stands of the Jean-Louis Vanterpool stadium in Marigot, a call for witnesses had been launched by the gendarmerie to identify and find the author.

Arrested, the latter was placed in custody and then in pre-trial detention for two years. He was tried on January 3 of this year in Guadeloupe by the criminal court  and not the Assize Court because the facts - initially of attempted homicide - were reclassified as aggravated violence with a weapon.

The gendarmerie investigation revealed that the individual had come, armed, to attend the football match and had an altercation with another young person (unfavorably known to the police services) and that he had put him to play before shoot.

To protect himself, the other youngster had drawn the victim against him, as a shield.

The author of the shooting had denied his involvement before moving on in his statements and recognizing it and fully assuming his responsibility. Until then he was only known to the police for traffic offenses and was at the time hired on an unlimited term contract in part French.

The court sentenced him to five years' imprisonment, three of which were suspended on probation. Having already served two years in prison, the young person left the courthouse free.  (soualigapost.com)
