The start of the school year took place on Monday under special conditions for parents and National Education staff in view of the health context with "contrasting situations" according to the establishments, notes the vice-rector, Michel Sanz. Depending on the school, the number of teachers and students varied. In the first stage, the absence of teachers led to the closure of the class as the pupils could not be divided into other classes.
On Monday, 31 teachers in public nursery schools were identified as absent in Saint-Martin, including 23 because of covid; the others justifying for another reason (maternity, etc.). In public elementary schools, 65 teachers were absent, 45 of them due to covid.
Concerning the pupils, 63% of the pupils in the primary schools were not present. In kindergarten, 7 out of 10 students in kindergarten were absent and 6 out of 10 in elementary.
“In Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, yesterday we had 34 kindergarten classes and 55 elementary classes closed, including 22 and 35 respectively because of the covid. On Saint-Martin, 30 classes in kindergarten and 50 in elementary school are closed ”, specifies the vice-rector.
In secondary education, 29% of teachers and 55% of students were absent.
