Paris and Los Angeles are sure to organize the Olympic Games in 2024 or 2028 after a vote taken yesterday in Lausanne by the International Olympic Committee in favor of the simultaneous allocation of the two editions on September 13 , in Lima. 100 years, or 104 years later, the Olympic Games will therefore return to Paris.
The secret of Polichinelle was lifted yesterday in Lausanne. Unsurprisingly, the members of the International Olympic Committee unanimously validated the proposal of the IOC Executive Board on the double attribution of the 2024 and 2028 Summer Games. Consequently, Paris and Los Angeles, the only candidates, are insured to organize one of these two editions of the Summer Olympics. At the end of this vote, Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris, and her Los Angeles counterpart, Eric Garcetti, went up to the podium to say "thank you" in concert.
It now remains to be determined which city will organize the 2024 Games and those of 2028. The IOC and the two cities will try to find a “tripartite” agreement to decide the order of allocation. If they find common ground, the extraordinary session of Lima, on September 13, will only have to definitively endorse this agreement. On the other hand, if Paris and Los Angeles refuse to give way for 2024, the members of the IOC will decide in Lima. But in the worst case, Paris will therefore host the Games in 2028. _AF
