Jabz, the artist who sets his island to music

Music, Jabari York, aka Jabz, fell into it when he was little. He started steelpan at the age of four and now makes a living at 19 playing in hotels, weddings and for cultural events like carnival. “It was my father who taught me everything,” he confides. His father, Isidore, is better known as Mighty Dow, author of the hit Sint Maarten Rumba (1986). Jabz is also the nephew of drummer Fred York, the coach of the Pépites. Jabz is one of four young talents who will perform on May 6 at Loterie Farm. He agreed to replace at short notice the young Elora, who recently retired. He will not go on stage to play the steelpan, but to sing. He will perform in particular his reggae pop song Island Kid, whose clip, directed by Lunatik and released in January 2016, has totaled nearly 100 views on Facebook. More details on www.soualigapost.com
