OA, a 36-year-old man born in Sint Maarten, is suspected by the Dutch side's anti-corruption prosecution of having unauthorized recovered his yacht, Jefe, after it had been seized by the authorities the day before.
The boat was in a shipyard and during a control the coast guards noted its disappearance. Investigations were immediately launched and the yacht was found in Anguilla. He was brought back to Sint Maarten and seized again.
OA was taken into police custody. He is one of the suspects involved in the Esmerald bribery case.
The yacht is expected to be sold by the prosecutor and the proceeds will be donated to the local treasury to compensate for some of the misappropriated money. In this same case, another boat was sold by the Sint Maarten prosecutor's office after it was recovered from the French authorities, who must receive part of the profits from the transaction.
