General strike: Blockade of the administrative city!

0

Forty people blocked the administrative city of Concordia on Wednesday April 17.

“We are on strike for Saint-Martin. We are not there only for the 16 CTOS agents. We are there for us Saint-Martinois.

And for our children ”indicate the strikers who now claim to be a“ collective ”including“ La Poste, Bethany Home, COM, CTOS, teachers, hotels, etc. ”.

Indeed, the strike movement started on January 30 by COM and CTOS agents at the call of the UTC-UGTG union has since April 11 turned into a general and unlimited strike which brings together the collective Soualiga United , unions SPEG, SUD PTT GWA, FSU and UGTG.

The claims are therefore multiple and go beyond the human resources conflicts raised by the COM and CTOS agents.

"We need a post office in the Quartier d'Orléans because the seniors cannot go down to Marigot" say the strikers installed in front of the administrative city. More generally, they have the feeling that Saint-Martin residents are excluded from the labor market. "Among us there are agents who have bac + 2, 3 or 5, so why the community says that Saint-Martin does not have qualified agents? They ask. “Our children came back from their studies with diplomas and cannot find a job on the island,” they add. They therefore state that they are waiting for President Daniel Gibbs to reopen negotiations.
