Armed Forces: Rear Admiral Eric Aymard takes the helm of the Armed Forces in the Antilles

0

Rear Admiral (CA) Eric Aymard took command of the armed forces in the West Indies on Wednesday September 1st. He succeeds Vice-Admiral Jean Hausermann.

Rear Admiral Éric Aymard enlisted as a sailor in 1986 and rose through the ranks until he won the coveted fighter pilot badge. As a “sky sailor”, he totaled more than 4 flight hours, 000 combat missions and 55 landings on aircraft carriers, including 883 at night.

An operational career in naval aeronautics

Once all the tactical fighter pilot qualifications had been obtained, Rear Admiral Éric Aymard naturally turned to the profession of a decking officer. He puts his passion for air operations from aircraft carriers to the service of tactical missions such as "Balbuzard", operation "Trident", the "Héraclès Air Indien" and "Harmattan" missions from the aircraft carriers Clemenceau, Foch and Charles De Gaulle.  He occupied most of the positions of the fighter flotillas, including that of chief of operations, then those of director of deck-landing officers, second of the airborne group and squadron commander. He also had the opportunity to supervise, for two years, young French Navy pilots in training with the US Navy where he also worked as an instructor. He will finish his first part of his career as commander of the airborne group from 2012 to 2014, an exciting position.

Key positions in staff

In 2014, Rear Admiral Éric Aymard joined the Naval Staff where, until 2017, he was in charge of operational studies and naval air employment doctrines. Then, from 2017 to 2019, he occupied the joint operational planning post for the Near and Middle East at the operations planning and conduct center of the Armed Forces staff. A particularly rewarding stage in a military career.  He was able to fully understand the virtues and effectiveness of the joint forces. Before being assigned to the armed forces in the Antilles, he was, from 2019 to 2021, the deputy general commanding the armed forces in Guyana and commander of the Guyana maritime zone.

A rewarded career

Rear Admiral Éric Aymard is an officer of the Legion of Honor. He is decorated with the Croix de Guerre with citation to the order of the squadron, the cross of military valor with citation to the order of the flotilla and citation to the order of the unit of the Navy. He holds the Aeronautics Medal and various commemorative medals for the theaters of foreign operations.
