ENVIRONMENT: How the ecosite treats ELVs

0

Verde Sxm, which manages the ecosite, is the only approved center on the island for the entire treatment chain for ELVs, end-of-life vehicles.

An ELV center must include several elements: in particular what to recover fluids, a storage center, and especially a police book, in computer form now. Regulations require an ELV center to recycle 95% of the recyclable part of a vehicle. When they arrive at the ecosite, ELVs are first transported to the mechanical workshop. Airbags, cables, oils and other pollutants are removed there, and finally all engine parts which are still in good condition. These parts are then labeled and stored to be sold to individuals and businesses. The engines are sold on the island or sent outside. Once cleared and dismantled, the vehicles go to final destruction.

Vehicles are compressed to the size of a washing machine, then piled up. The rest of the separation, which will achieve 95% recycling of all that is recyclable, will be done in the crushing plant where Verde-Sxm will send these bales. “As soon as we have enough to fill five containers, we send them to international markets. Right now it's going to Taiwan. There are some who leave for Belgium, France… There there are huge crushers where the separation takes place. The end of the chain is made there. And we can justify where it is going "continues Patrick Villemin, president of Verde SXM.
