Meet the security players

The Internal Security Meetings took place from October 10 to 13, 2018. On Saturday October 13, a discovery day open to the general public was organized in the parking lot of the Marina Fort Louis. For visitors to this event, it was an opportunity to meet and discuss with these committed citizens. This week, we invite you to discover the faces of these humans behind the uniform…

For security actors, it was a question of informing and raising awareness of the population about their missions on the territory, but also for some of them to initiate recruitments.

Meeting with the Territorial Police: zoom on the police dog squad

In addition to being a local police force, the Territorial Police is made up of a motorized brigade, an ATV brigade and a police brigade. On the stand, the police presented their vehicles and equipment. Snoop, one of the two dogs in the police brigade and his dog handler, demonstrated their mission within the police. “Snoop is a dog trained in the detection of narcotics, weapons, banknotes and can even participate in the search for missing persons. "Informs Patrick Paines, dog handler. The second Impact dog is an attack dog that can come in for specific operations.

"We benefited from a 4-month on-site training, very intense physically for the dog as for its handler." adds Martin Adams, dog handler. The police police canine brigade can be called upon within the framework of collaborations with the Gendarmerie.

For the moment, the police are not planning to recruit. “On the other hand, we have set up civic services which are open to young people aged 16 to 25 and people with disabilities aged 30. The civic services assist us during the summer period, for example, but also for occasional events. ” explains Jacqueline Rodriguez, Chief of the Territorial Police.

Meeting with the Reservists of the National Gendarmerie

On the stand of the National Gendarmerie, we were able to meet three reservists with very different profiles. Today numbering about twenty people, the National Gendarmerie Reserve in Saint-Martin wishes to strengthen its workforce. “I joined the Gendarmerie Reserve in 2011 and I am proud to wear the uniform.

Often, we perceive the repressive aspect of the mission, but on the contrary, we are there to inform, help, protect and help. I am Saint-Martin and I notice that we need locally trained staff, especially at events like Irma. ” said Mercedes Castillo-Daisy, reservist.

For the first time this year, PMG training (Military Gendarmerie Preparation) took place in Saint-Martin for fifteen days. Reservist since the last training session in July, Hugues Demaley tells us “I note that we are very useful in the area. On the one hand thanks to our knowledge of the island and the culture but also because we speak English, which is an asset and facilitates contact with the population on the ground. Both originating from the island, they joined the Reserve while assuming their professional activity.

Captain Ravier joined the Reserve in 2018 as a retired member of the Gendarmerie after having worked in the territory until last January. “I take pleasure in supervising this youth who comes to support the institution. "
