Environment: Dust alert on the island

0

The hazy sky over the island can be a mixture of Saharan dust from Africa and volcanic ash from the La Soufrière volcano which erupted in Saint-Vincent.

Weather models indicate that very fine particles of volcanic ash from the erupting volcano could drift through the local area over the next few days, according to the Sint Maarten meteorological department. This can be combined with the low concentration of Saharan dust already affecting the island.

The combination of the two types of dust in the atmosphere can cause a slight reduction in visibility and can affect people with sensitive eyes and / or respiratory diseases. All concerned are encouraged to take precautions against dust. _AF
