Last Friday, November 18, the Librairie du Bord de Mer in Marigot welcomed the officials for the long-awaited launch of the Culture Pass for young people.
Born from the desire to provide young people with a new system promoting access to culture and launched in 2019 by the French government, the Pass Culture allows young people aged 15 to 18 to benefit from a sum to spend in the cultural offer in Saint-Martin and in France: €20 for 15 year olds, €30 for 16 and 17 year olds, €300 for 18 year olds, to be used as desired from the catalog of offers offered on the downloadable application. Shows, concerts, acting classes, singing and drawing, musical instruments, books, comic strips, young people will turn to the art that inspires them. The list of offers is still in progress. A specific amount will also be allocated to schools from the 4th to the final year in order to access cultural activities, the project manager will meet the various departments next January. On the initiative of the delegate prefect Vincent Berton, accompanied for the occasion by his secretary general Fabien Sésé, the vice-rector Harry Christophe, the director of Cultural Affairs of Guadeloupe François Derudder, the territorial adviser Marc-Gérald Menard and Geneviève and Patrick Videlier, managers of the bookshop, the president of the Pass Culture, Sébastien Cavalier, underlined the importance of such a device to both counter the sometimes inaccessible cost of the cultural offer and strengthen its promotion in the territories of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy.
A pure tool of understanding, tolerance and imagination, culture guides young people in their construction, while seeing the world through the eyes of others. It is an essential element of any modern society.
