EDUCATION: Territorial police reinforce security around schools

0

Last week, territorial police officers were alongside agents from the Sandy Ground on the move association who supervise the crossing of schoolchildren. “We would provide their training,” explains Thierry Verres, retired gendarme and new director of the territorial police.

The pedestrian crossings in front of the eight public primary schools are secured either by territorial police officers or by agents recruited by two associations on behalf of the Collectivity. However, these agents carry out this work without having been trained. The new boss of the territorial police thus wished to provide them with a two-hour training (theory and practice). “There are safety measures to adopt, especially in front of schools where cars can pass quickly. In addition, you have to get the children to cross while regulating car traffic so as not to create traffic jams”, conceives Thierry Verres.

Awareness of not wearing a helmet

In addition, the territorial police will begin educational work with parents' associations and parents to make them aware of the dangers of the road and not wearing a helmet. It is indeed not uncommon to see parents dropping off or picking up their children on a scooter without a helmet. “We are going to do awareness work and, if they continue not to respect the rules, we will verbalize”, indicates the new boss of the territorial police.
