ECONOMY: Europe adopts the grant of 49 million euros for Saint-Martin and Guadeloupe

1

Following hurricanes Irma and Maria in Saint-Martin and Guadeloupe, France had asked Europe for aid from the Solidarity Fund. Spain, Greece and Portugal had also requested aid to cover damage caused by other disasters on their territory.

A draft report granting 104,2 million to these four countries had then been drawn up by José Manuel Fernandes and acted in principle. However, it had to be validated by the European Parliament, which has just been done. The aid was adopted by 629 votes in favor, 21 votes against and 9 abstentions. France will benefit from 49 million euros.

The European Council approved the aid on May 14. With the green light from Parliament, the funds will be available within a few weeks.
