Territorial Archives: Departure for agents' immersion course

0

Hurricane IRMA deeply damaged the building of the Territorial Archives of Saint-Martin and the media library (Concordia).

The Territorial Archives of Saint-Martin, open to the public on December 8, 2014, were affected by Hurricane IRMA with very serious damage to their conservation premises and to the public reception areas.

In this new context, the traditional functioning of the Territorial Archives is considerably modified. The archive funds necessary for the reconstruction of the territory have been relocated to a temporary building in Saint-Martin. To date, the temporary premises no longer allow the public to be accommodated. Solutions are currently being studied to resume the communication of funds to the public using digital tools.

In order to take advantage of this complex period, and continue to increase the skills of the agents of the Territorial Archives of Saint-Martin in the field of archives, four agents of the Territorial Archives of Saint-Martin will thus undertake in 2018 a professional immersion course in another public archive service.

As of May 28, Jean-Marc HON, archival officer, in charge of archival processing and preventive conservation, will be welcomed at the Departmental Archives of Côte-d'Or (Dijon). Audrey Claxton, in charge of educational workshops, will do her internship at the Gironde Departmental Archives (Bordeaux) and Eugène Carty, archive agent in the collection and treatment section, will join the team at the Creuse Departmental Archives (Guéret) in June. In October, Estelle Bruchlen, archivist, assistant to the Director, will leave for the Departmental Archives of Martinique (Fort-de-France).

These professional immersion courses are the concrete manifestation of the support of certain communities for the reconstruction of Saint-Martin. Through the professional exchanges built during these internships and the provision of accommodation by the reception structures, it is also an expertise put at the service of Saint-Martin that the agents will bring back for the benefit of our territory and the reconstruction of the Territorial Archives of Saint-Martin.

The President of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, Daniel Gibbes, would particularly like to thank the communities and the public archive services for their support and the welcome of these 4 agents. It is thanks to the involvement of the departmental councils of Côte-d'Or, Creuse, Gironde and the unique community of Martinique that these internships were made possible. The President also thanks Stéphanie Dargaud, Director of the Territorial and Heritage Archives, behind this project, as well as Paul Dollin, Director of Human Resources, and the Directors of the Departmental Host Archives.
