Badly damaged by Hurricane Irma, the Cul de Sac elementary school was therefore demolished. Which, in the end, serves the community which was to demolish the establishment following a court decision.
As a reminder, the school was built in 2000 on a plot belonging to the Charles and Fabrice Malortigue brothers without their authorization. In 2005, the two brothers discovered the illegal occupation of their land by the municipality and brought the matter to justice, which, in December 2010, ordered the demolition of the school and the restitution of the land in the state.
In March 2014, the Collectivity started a procedure of declaration of public utility (DUP) in order to acquire by expropriation the two plots, a prefectural decree is taken in August to confirm it. This order was attacked by the two brothers who considered that it was a means of circumventing the court decision.
At the end of 2018, the administrative court of appeal of Bordeaux went in their direction and canceled the prefectoral decree. The 2010 court order ordering the demolition of the school must be implemented.
But since then, Irma has passed by and taken charge of destroying the Cul de Sac school. The demolition was completed by the community last August. The ground is again virgin and can be returned in the state to the Malortigue brothers as they wish it since 2005. Remains on the other hand to be seen if they will give damages.
