The regional prefect, the delegated prefect of the North Islands and the director general of the Health Agency confirm in a press release the link between the death of a patient in Paris and the infection by the dengue virus during her stay in Saint-Martin.

A 75-year-old French patient staying regularly in Saint-Martin was treated medically at the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital on February 6 for deterioration of the general condition. In the afternoon of February 6, given the unfavorable development in a context notably of biologically confirmed diagnosis of dengue fever, the patient was evacuated to the Pointe-à-Pitre teaching hospital in the evening.

The next day, the medical situation deteriorating and potentially requiring a transplant act, medical evacuation to the Paul Brousse hospital in Paris was carried out. Unfortunately she died on February 8.

Following the death, an investigation was conducted in order to establish the direct link or not with dengue. Thus, the ARS has just been informed that the collegial concertation meeting of infectiologists has classified the death as directly linked to dengue.

The authorities reiterate the importance of the preventive measures recommended during the Management Committees.
