Education: The North Islands at the time of the Olympic and Paralympic week

0

Following the designation of Paris as host city of the Games in 2024, an Olympic and Paralympic week is organized each year by the Ministry of National Education and Youth, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and the French sports movement. In 2020, it took place from February 3 to 8.

The national education services of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin in conjunction with the coordinating association USEP Iles du Nord and the UNSS organized activities so that Olympic and Paralympic week is a time to awaken students to the benefits of regular sports and to understand civic and sporting values. The objectives of the program set up were to promote sport as an inclusive educational lever and to change the eyes of the youngest on disability by integrating sports meetings. Parents were also involved in these protests.

On this occasion, during this week, two school crosses were organized at the Jean-Louis Vanterpool stadium in Concordia as well as a nautical morning at the base of Galisbay.

The school crosses brought together more than 800 students from the Concordia basin. During the nautical morning of 05 February 2020, the students accompanied by their parents benefited from an introduction to kayaking and schooner supervised by the EPS teachers from the Mont des Accords college.

All the activities proposed within the framework of this week concerned the pupils of the first and second degrees by including the pupils of the ULIS devices of the schools, the colleges and the vocational high school (Thanks to Joëlle Francillette).
