Official speeches followed one another at the opening of Fish Day last Sunday in Cul de Sac Bay.

President Gibbs, Parliamentarians Claire Javois and Guillaume Arnell and Secretary General of the Prefecture, Mickael Doré, spoke on the stage of Fish Day.

The official speeches were punctuated by a tribute and a minute of silence in memory of Father Cornelius Charles, whose funeral took place last Monday, a vibrant tribute by Pastor Hodge.

In his speech, President Gibbs recalled the fundamentals of Fish Day, sharing, unity, conviviality around local cultural traditions, while saluting the longevity of the event which is celebrating its 17th year.

He also referred to the public policies implemented in favor of the Agriculture and fishing sector by his majority:

- Reconstruction of the Fish Market on the Marigot seafront (work in progress)

- The creation of a fishing landing point at the Marina Port la Royale (Provided for in the 2019 budget)

- The establishment of targeted training for fishermen: qualifying training dedicated to fishermen already enlisted and training to enable non-registered fishermen to regularize their situation.

In order to adapt to all scenarios, the Collectivity has chosen to set up a targeted training course according to the needs and professionalization of fishermen.

Several culinary stands offered the many visitors present to taste the Saint-Martin specialties and small traditional dishes based on seafood.

Musical entertainment with artists from the island was organized throughout the day, as well as games for children.

A very nice day!
