Culture: The “Happy Bookers” book club makes people happy!

0

On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the “Happy Bookers” book club donated books last Saturday. The first at the kiosk installed by the Sunset Rotary Club on the Sea Front in Marigot, the second at the Sint-Maarten Yacht Club in Simpson Bay.

This club is made up of people from both sides of the island. It meets every second Wednesday of the month since February 2009 to discuss literature and the selected book of the month. These women and men are locals, expatriates, young professionals, young parents, and retirees. The diversity of this group promotes very enriching and quality discussions.

The club is also organizing a fundraiser to donate books to the Media Library and the “Philipsburg Jubilee Library”. The members of the club, saddened by the loss of books and other damage suffered by these places of culture during the passage of cyclone IRMA, decided to unite to contribute to their rebirth.

On this subject, a typical local San Marino breakfast will take place on Saturday February 23, 2019 from 8h to 10h in the parking lot of "Philipsburg Jubilee Library". On the menu for 10 euros, Saltfish, Johnny Cakes, hard-boiled eggs, a small salad and fruit will be offered to visitors. Without forgetting the Bush Tea!

The club is open to everyone. You can however read the selection of the month in the language of your choice but discussions are only in English.

To join the club or if you want to participate in the fundraising, call infoline at 0690 663716.
