Last Wednesday, Sint Maarten welcomed the Spirit of Discovery, the new ship of the cruise company Saga Cruises, on the occasion of its inaugural stopover. The luxury cruise ship is the largest ship ever built for the UK-based company Saga Cruises.

The Ministry of TEATT (Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications) represented by Minister Mellissa Arrindell-Doncher, representatives of Port Sint Maarten and the director of the terminal and port services, Hubert Leo Chance, were present to discuss welcome plaques with Spirit of Discovery captain Nick Sunderland. The Port Sint Maarten manager felt that for the 2019-2020 season it is necessary to continue working "diligently to ensure we offer a unique and authentic cruise destination experience compared to other destinations in the region. "

The Spirit of Discovery was delivered to the cruise company on June 24 and was operational on July 10. It has a capacity of 999 people and a crew of 505 members.

The Spirit of Discovery currently has 850 people on board and offers a 35-night cruise. After leaving Southampton, the ship made a six-day transatlantic crossing with a first stop in Barbados. After Sint Maarten, he must go to Puerto Rico, before a few stopovers on the American continent and in Bermuda, before crossing the Atlantic Ocean again to join Southampton. Founded in 1996, the company Saga Cruises targets an affluent clientele over 50 years of age, mainly resident in the United Kingdom. _RM
