While health situation  deteriorated sharply in Martinique, the authorities decided to take new measures. “Containment will be put in place” from Friday July 30 at 19 p.m. and for three weeks, “with a review clause in mid-August,” announced the prefect, Stanislas Cazelles.

The curfew in effect  at 21 p.m. is reduced to 19 p.m. starting this Friday 29 and will last until 5 a.m. It is also the return of compelling reasons: "any movement beyond a limit of 10 km around the home will be subject to a certificate," said the prefect.

  Restaurants and gyms closed

The confinement that will be put in place this weekend will aim to "break the curve, lower the number of contamination and protect the territory for the start of the school year", explained Stanislas Cazelles.

The number of positive cases continues to increase over the days, from 2257 cases last week to 3537 cases this week. The positivity rate is 16,4% and the incidence rate has reached 995 per 100.000 inhabitants.

Unlike previous confinements, all non-essential and essential shops, “where the mask is worn”, can remain open. Most cultural activities will also be able to continue “as long as they are done with a mask”. Places of worship remain open. Shops where wearing a mask is not possible, such as restaurants or sports halls, will have to close.

  Return from "dynamic" swimming

Access to the beaches is authorized for "dynamic and sporting" swimming. Groupings of boats will be prohibited. The prefect also called on residents to once again respect "the rule of six" people in the private sphere. To fight "against festive activities at home", home services, such as caterers, musicians, etc., will be banned, he added.
