At Orly airport on Monday morning, Annick Girardin visited the warehouses of the company WFS Worldwide Flight Services where more than 5,8 million masks were stored intended for the general public and equipment intended for overseas hospitals, then attended the boarding of part of this freight on the plane which was leaving for Guyana.

This operation, set up with the logistician GEODIS Freight Forwarder in partnership with the air transport group Dubreuil, will allow 5,1 million disposable masks and 700000 washable cloth masks to be shipped.

These masks for the general public will be distributed to teachers and students, vulnerable people, state agents and operators of water, waste, energy and transport, to support deconfinement in good sanitary conditions. .

Medical equipment, including 59 respirators and consumables (filters, pumps, tubing), completed the cargo.

The first Air Caraïbes plane to Guyana arrived in Cayenne on Monday evening. It is followed by two French Bee charters bound for Reunion which landed yesterday morning in St-Denis and will in particular allow more than a million masks to be sent to Mayotte by an Air Austral flight on May 20. Finally, an Air Caraïbes plane will serve Fort-de-France and Pointe-à-Pitre on Wednesday, from where part of its load will be dispatched to Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin.

This operation follows an initial shipment of 2 million disposable masks for the general public and 700000 washable masks between May 6 and 11, covering all of the overseas departments and communities.

Annick Girardin clarified that the government had chosen to use the charter of dedicated flights for the DROMs and the northern islands to prevent this operation from leading to taking the place of freight transiting on commercial air routes, already saturated, and to control the cost of air freight, and that such an operation would be repeated if necessary.

Following this visit, Annick Girardin held a working meeting with the airlines serving the overseas territories, in the presence of the Secretary of State for Transport Jean-Baptiste Djebbari. This made it possible to discuss the prospects for recovery in traffic and the economic impact of the health crisis on air freight and the financial health of airlines.
