Territorial Council: Presentation of the requalification of the Marigot seafront

0

During the presentation of the initial budget for 2021, in the plenary session of the Territorial Council yesterday, President Daniel Gibbs made a point of presenting the project for the requalification of the Marigot Sea Front, the architectural competition of which was launched on December 18.

This project is currently in its project management competition phase aimed at selecting the future development project. The first proposals of the candidates for the competition for architects gradually reach the Collective. The competition jury is responsible for analyzing the proposals and will be able to present the first sketches of the candidates to the population in July 2021. It is then within the framework of a broad public consultation that the final project will be selected.

By this requalification, going from the parking lot of Galisbay to the roundabout of the Tourist Office, the Team Gibbs mandate wishes to create a rewarding, qualitative zone, as much for the operators of the public infrastructures which will be built and made available, as for the population and visitors who will enjoy the place.

The specifications provide for a development over 4 years, with 5 action phases:

1- The development of a landscaped walk in front of the cemetery,

2- The development of green spaces around the Marina Fort Louis,

3- The development of a green space in front of the ferry terminal (under renovation),

4- The development of a commercial area, with a hall welcoming the market: street vendors, craft stalls and the food market (24 stalls and 10 shops),

5- The rehabilitation of the amphitheater to accommodate cultural events.

The Collectivity is also planning the construction of a new building accommodating 4 restaurants and an area dedicated to traditional catering (Lolos), for a total of 4 restaurants and 16 lolos. The existing mosaics in the old building will be preserved as much as possible and enhanced in the reconstruction.

The current containers installed on the Waterfront are temporary installations. They will eventually be removed from this area to make way for an entirely new solid infrastructure.

Candidates for the architectural competition are invited to work on the development of a seafront, welcoming, functional, with completely redesigned circulation and parking, green spaces consistent with the area, street furniture and lighting. nocturnal.

Applicants must also think of a development open to the city center so that it is integrated into the requalification of the Seafront, with adapted installations and an opening on the rue des Amandiers, the rue de l'Anguille, the rue from the Methodist Church and rue de la République. These breakthroughs will revitalize the city center and create a coherent living space in the heart of Marigot.

It should be noted that a parallel project for the tourism of the historic sites of Marigot, including Fort Louis, is currently being considered and will be integrated into the redefinition of the Seafront, in order to give overall coherence to the development project.

Next step: the presentation of the first sketches in July 2021.
