President Daniel Gibbs began a series of field visits last Friday, aimed at interacting with professionals and the public and taking the pulse of reconstruction.

This first trip, after the visits linked to the emergency phase, was placed under the theme of the reconstruction of tourist establishments.

While in regular contact with the hoteliers, the President chose to go to Grand Case, to meet two owners of Guest House who will soon start their reconstruction work. He also made a stopover on Orient Bay, where the beach restaurants will be rebuilt. The President then took the boat to Pinel where he met the two restaurateurs who have just reopened their establishment. Other visits of this type are planned in all sectors of the island, to meet professionals and the population.

Through this visit, President Gibbs wished to see for himself the projects of these professionals and the work undertaken or to come. On the Boulevard de Grand Case, the President went to the Guest House Hévéa which has already reopened, but which must carry out renovations, and to the Guest House Free Breeze where the owner must rebuild his roof and redo its interiors. Major projects carried out by professionals determined and motivated to revive their activity.

On Orient Bay beach, Sindextour started work on the new Bikini Beach beach restaurant on community plot AW33. Four building permits have been issued to Sindextour for the reconstruction of Kakao Beach, Waikiki Beach and Kontiki.

The Coco Beach will also be rebuilt to put the Five Stars back in working order.

The Collectivity is also working on the project to rehabilitate the carbets on the AW34 plot, the objective being to allow holders of Temporary Occupation Authorizations (AOT) to restart their activity for the next tourist season.

On Pinel islet, the President went to meet the owner of Le Yellow Beach restaurant, which reopened 15 days ago after rebuilding the entire structure. Same situation at Karibuni, which has just reopened after a total renovation of the restaurant.

All the establishments visited were either strongly impacted by Irma or entirely destroyed, the Chairman wished to encourage them in their reconstruction process. Regarding the recommendations of the management of town planning in terms of reconstruction, beach establishments are authorized to build a permanent part for the storage of equipment in the event of a cyclonic alert, and a removable part.

These visits, carried out around the 2018 provisional budget of the community, which provides aid for the reconstruction of Guest houses and aid for disaster-stricken businesses, with the support of European funds Feder, will continue in the coming weeks in order to work as closely as possible the needs of professionals and to exchange regularly with them.

Note that a budget will also be allocated to aid in the reconstruction of roofs for individuals in precarious situations, before the hurricane season. The modalities of this community assistance are under development. Field visits to meet the residents concerned are also scheduled by the end of June.
