Climate - National Day: “There is still time”: A march for the climate organized on Saturday, October 13 in the streets of Marigot!

0

This Saturday, October 13, 2018, following the world day “In our streets for the climate” of September 8, which brought together more than 150 people in France, citizens, associations and political parties will again march together for the climate and biodiversity in seventy-six French cities and will demand from local elected representatives clear commitments and ambitious actions. Saint-Martin is one of the priorities of the President of the Republic who announced support measures.

In Saint-Martin, the carbon footprint of each inhabitant is phenomenal. It suffices to count the number of products of our daily life resulting from a very expensive import in fossil energy, the quantity of vehicles in circulation transporting only their driver or even the deplorable treatment of waste water, to realize that a big effort is to be provided. The devastating cyclones and the massive stranding of sargassum are just a few local examples of the consequences of global disruption.

However, we remain optimistic, everyone on their own scale can participate in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Sensitize the local population

It is urgent that the government take drastic measures if we do not want to reach the additional 1,5 ° C in 2030 announced by the last IPCC report. We must take the lead to raise awareness.

At a time when Saint-Martin is in the midst of reconstruction, the time is right to set out again on bases that include solutions to climate challenges. Joining the movement this Saturday October 13th to support this demand for radical changes is to get involved for your island and its future.

Course of the event: 9:30 am meeting at the new prefecture. We will take the direction of the center of Marigot, turn right in rue de la République (Caisse d'Epargne). Then turn left in rue V. Marasse which will take us to the Collectivity. We will be able to stop in the park, the time to exchange some collective ideas on possible commitments for Saint-Martin in order to reduce greenhouse gases. Following this, we will resume our way to the prefecture, this time passing through the streets of Mairie and F. Eboué. Return scheduled at 10:30 am to the prefecture. It is a very short route in terms of distance but also in time. It is accessible to everyone, even the youngest, since we are all concerned.
