In order to strengthen its team already made up of about twenty professionals and volunteers from metropolitan France, but also to train them, the Les Compagnons Bâtisseurs association recruited five young local people in civic service for six-month contracts.

Their mission is to promote social integration through housing and civic engagement. They are coordinated by Martine Beldor, also a native of Saint-Martin, who is also responsible for carrying out social surveys among affected families who wish to benefit from the roof repair project.

These young people work four days a week from 7 am to 13 pm. “During their mission, individualized support is planned because it is important to create a framework conducive to exchange, discussion and referral to build their future project. It is important to encourage them and above all to promote them, ”says Martine Beldor.

• Cedric Brooks, 24, is on the same site as Bilardo in Quartier d'Orléans. He started his civic service in December 2018. “I wanted to work and I like to rooftops. We help people who have no money to repair theirs, ”he explains shyly. Holder of a Bac ES obtained in Saint-Martin at the time of the schedule, he did not continue his studies and did odd jobs. He does not yet know what he would like to do once his civic service is completed but probably "continue in the frame".

• Bernard gumbs, 19, aka Wizito is a local star as a member of Tolly Boy's. After trying in 2017 a year of university in Agen in English Language, Literature and Civilization (LLCE) which he did not like, he returned to his island. He began his civic service with the Building Companions on February 1. “Since my return I have done nothing. A friend who had performed civic service and who won a professional contract with the Compagnons Bâtisseurs encouraged me to apply, ”he says. Before that he did not know the association or its missions. He already had some basics in the building because, as a child, he helped his father build his house and said he liked what he is doing now. “I believe that I will continue on this path, but rather in masonry. I would like to try to train myself ”he advances by indicating that his plan for the future is underway.

During their mission, the civic services will follow three compulsory training courses:

- Habilitation to work at height (Fore Center)

- Civic and Citizen training (Fore Center)

- The PSC1 (Red Cross)

The Companion builders are currently looking for a young person from Quartier d'Orléans in civic service to work on the neighborhood resource center. Remuneration: 580,58 €
