The opening of the 2017 Sint-Maarten Carnival was marked by many serious incidents that occurred during the Jump Up organized last Monday along the route between St. Peters and the Festival Village.

Many spectators were present to celebrate the 1st major event of the 2017 Sint-Maarten Carnival. Unfortunately, it was otherwise. Indeed, the police services had to intervene and even arrest several people involved in numerous fights that broke out on the course.

Near the Festival Village, a man was stabbed after a brawl involving two young women.

A total of four men and two girls were arrested and taken to the Philipsburg police station.

The four remain in detention pending the results of the investigation.

The two young women were released before each fined NAf. 150.

Police services remind the entire population that a zero tolerance policy will be applied throughout the 2017 carnival festivities. _AF
