Barbecue smoking along the courts, gazebos and seats to protect from the sun, … everything was set up on August 20 to host the last matches of this first major padel tournament on the Sandy Ground courts. It is in this conviviality that the players of this very fashionable sport clashed during two weeks of competition. "We have returned the female pairs to a male draw composed of two pools of five teams", supports Mathieu Stoebner. "Girls could earn more points for their ranking."
After 47 matches in the men's draw, the pair made up of Aldo Ricci and Patrick Marmolejo from the Belair club won the final against the duo Nicolas Jaume and Florian Dubois, from Nîmes, via a super tie-break as a third set. On the foot of the podium, we find the pair Mathieu Stoebner and Benjamin Mosset against Alex Schvartz and Nacho Jauregui. Again, it was necessary to go until the third set to decide between the two teams.
In the mixed category, 12 couples competed in a knockout format. After more than 30 hard-fought games in total, the final victory went to Nacho Jaregui associated with Alba Soler. This pair took the measure of Gilles Lafaurie and Julia Lelorrian. In third place, the pair Nancy Lelorrain and Johan Picquet easily defeated Laura Hartman and Michael Scholze.
These victories were celebrated around a good barbecue financed by registrations. "We were in a very family atmosphere", supports the organization which plans a new tournament during the month of October. _pc
