Leaving to compete in the French Beach Tennis Championship which took place in Châtelaillon-Plage (New Aquitaine) from 23 to 25 August 2018, the first Saint-Martin junior team to qualify for this competition finishes in sixth place after losing in quarterfinal.

The president of the Kakao Beach Club who has been training them since childhood, Alexandre Juilliard, confided last July that he had no real expectations: “as it is the first time, we do not know the level of their opponents at all. ".

For him, and for the club created in 2012, their qualification was already a consecration. “The whole club are very satisfied and proud of their performance,” he comments now.

Tom Lamort, 15, qualified in Guadeloupe last May. His partner Romain Kleiber unable to follow him in the championship, it was Baptiste Chiffre who replaced him at short notice. They represented not only Saint-Martin but also Guadeloupe in the only children's category of the championship which saw seventeen teams compete. Of the five from Guadeloupe to have participated in the championship (adults and children), Baptiste and Tom come in second place in the standings. “I feel a certain pride because our result is beyond what I expected,” says Baptiste. They have indeed beaten the leagues of Corsica, Grand Est, Brittany, New Aquitaine… regions with resources far superior to theirs. "I think it's absolutely great to have been able to participate in this championship which was incredible, especially after having lived Irma last year and when we were not sure of staying on the island this year" adds Tom.

Like last year, for this tenth edition of the French championship, “Reunion Island doubled in the 15/16 age group thanks to Maïré Bray and Delphée Bourjéa and to Pierre Bergonzoli and Matthias Pérez who respectively retained their title in the girls and boys ”indicates the French Tennis Federation.
