ARS: measurement of hydrogen sulphide levels

0

The "Sargassum" survey for week 29 from the Regional Health Agency (ARS) indicates a "presence of odors on the bay of Cul-de-Sac due to the heavy accumulations of algae during the week" with "a development increased H2S gas emissions”. Points classified as at risk, depending on the proximity of dwellings, are: Cul-de-Sac Bay, Orient Bay North and Lucas Bay.

Regarding the measurements taken over more than 48 hours in Cul-de-Sac, the bulletin shows hydrogen sulphide (H2S) levels near homes varying between 0.2ppm and 0.3ppm, and between 1.1ppm and 4.3ppm in the face of algae. Regarding the health effects, “from 0.7 ppm in exposure over several weeks, we can expect to observe irritative effects, in particular ocular and respiratory”. _EH
