“With its 934 votes, the Alternative political movement had, during the territorial elections of 2022, confirmation that its involvement for the territory was requested. Consolidating the political movement was thus obvious,” says Valérie Damaseau, the leader of the movement.
After an internal consultation, the members of the Alternative list and their sympathizers gathered on May 25th in a constituent general assembly decided to finalize the creation of the political party.
Alternative is available as a political party but also as an association. “While the association will be closer to the population, the political party wants to be at the heart of territorial public policies in order to strengthen the skills of its members and enable them to better understand the political issues of today and of tomorrow,” says Valérie Damaseau, elected president of the party. "With Alternative, we will forge future actors in public and political life while working for the territory," she says.
As a reminder, Alternative made an alliance during the second round with the Rassemblement Saint-Martinois. In addition to Valérie Damaseau, Audrey Gil and Bernadette Venthou-Dumaine also sit on the territorial council in the ranks of the majority.
"I accepted this new challenge, giving myself the objective of advancing projects and stimulating new ideas", says Audrey Gil. Just like Bernadette Venthou-Dumaine who says she is “honored to be able to serve [her] island and be part of the development, change and evolution of our friendly Island”.
