Present at the 7th Summit of the Association of Caribbean States (AEC), which was held at the Palace of Congresses in Havana in Cuba, from June 2 to 4, President Aline HANSON was very honored by the welcome received to the community of Saint-Martin within the AEC.

Indeed, Thursday, June 2, the accession of Saint Martin as an associate member of the ACS in its own name, was ratified unanimously by the member countries. "Supported by the French Republic and the member states, the application for membership in its own name submitted by the Collectivity of Saint Martin was very well received," rejoiced the President. Aline HANSON went to Cuba with the French delegation.

Friday June 3, member states validated the Havana Declaration and the new ACS Action Plan for the period 2016-2018. During this summit, the ACS concentrated its efforts on cooperation, with the common objective for the member states to accentuate political concertation by coordinating their actions more.

On Saturday June 4, at the meeting for heads of state and government at the Palace of the Revolution, Cuban President Raoul Castro welcomed Saint Martin's membership in the ACS. Focused on promoting sustainable development in the Greater Caribbean, the 7th ACS Summit was a success according to the participants, mainly because of its ability to strengthen ties between the Caribbean states and through its contribution to the process of revitalization of association.

Aware of the challenges of economic cooperation within the Greater Caribbean, President Aline HANSON was very attached to the accession of Saint Martin in her own name. From now on, the community of Saint-Martin, like Martinique and Guadeloupe who have been associate members since April 2014, will be able to directly participate in the political reflections of the AEC and thus register the territory in commercial, tourist and protection actions against natural risks, which will be initiated on a Caribbean scale.
