Traffic at Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes airport experienced a sharp increase last month with 9,9% more passengers than in January 2017, setting a new monthly record for a month in January.

After a quieter month of December (0,8%), Pointe à Pitre-Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes airport recorded 238.487 non-transit passengers in January, an increase of 9,9% compared to the same month the year last. Including transit, the airport established a new monthly record for a month of January with 244.011 passengers. The “France hexagonal” route shows the strongest increase (+ 15,51%, or 19.996 additional passengers): thanks to the good performance of the line to Paris-Charles de Gaulle (+ 115%) which benefits from the repositioning of the Air France aircraft assigned to serve Juliana airport until March to Guadeloupe, at the rate of 6 flights per week, as well as the strengthening of XL Airways' offer.

The “Europe” network, for its part, increased by 12.83%, thanks to the good performance of cruise traffic, especially to Italy (+ 16.01%). Growth on the Caribbean network (+ 11.29%) was driven by the Port au Prince and Juliana lines. Note that traffic to San Juan was zero, a direct consequence of cyclones.

Traffic to the USA continues to grow with 5,33% more passengers, an increase linked in part to the strengthening of the flight program to Montreal and Fort Lauderdale (Air Canada and Norwegian respectively), as well as the contribution of the news line to Atlanta operated by Air France.

On the other hand, traffic to Martinique and Guyana shows a decrease of 2,99%, still suffering from the slowdown towards Fort de France (-4,82%) due to the higher prices observed in recent months.

The freight activity at Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes airport rose 25,58% with 815 tonnes of goods processed (import and export).

According to the airport press release, "this good start suggests good prospects for this year 2018" which will be marked by the 40th anniversary of the Route du Rhum, which will start in early November, and especially by the arrival of the Low cost long-haul airline Level, the first flight from Orly will take place on July 2.
