“The TV is you! » A slogan which perfectly translates the will of Loïc Lagoutte, founder of the IO TV channel in 2012, that « to make the inhabitants of the island actors of the TV ».
Laetitia Gentil, a photographer by training, and Loïc Lagoutte, a sound engineer who grew up on the island from the age of four, set up their production company in 2012. They quickly noticed this audiovisual lack but also the potential to be exploited. “Besides our work, we started to make subjects on a voluntary basis. There are then four of us with David and Rodrigue, ”says Loïc. The first report was broadcast on October 10, 2012 and focused on the revitalization of Marigot. The medium is the internet. IO TV is a web TV. This choice is simple: no broadcasting authorization is required and the resources required are insignificant. "This will allow us to show what we know how to do, how we want to do it," says Loïc. Above all, this allows them to appreciate the interest shown by Internet users. And to understand that a local TV channel would have its place in Saint-Martin.
One thing leading to another, IO TV went from the web to the small screen. "In 2015 we started the process with Initiative Saint-Martin Active and the Superior Audiovisual Council and we obtained help from the Feder fund".
IOTV "the small rising channel" in Saint-Martin is now part of the audiovisual landscape but it was without counting on the devastating passage of hurricane Irma which will put a stop to the broadcast of the channel. “It's true, we took a serious hit on the head but we quickly decided to take on a new challenge. After Irma, the only way to broadcast was the satellite,” explains Loïc. A request is then made to Canal + Caraïbes and will be satisfied. IOT TV joined the bouquet on May 26, 2018 (channel 38). Saint Martin television is also available on channel 38 of the Dauphin Telecom package, channel 8 of Orange TV, on instagram and youtube.
In October 2018, Saint-Martin television moved into its new premises in the heart of Marigot. “It is an emblematic place in the capital of Saint-Martin. We are in the premises of the very first supermarket on the island”, specifies Loïc.
After another pandemic-related halt, IO TV has every intention of making up for lost time. A new program schedule should see the light of day in the coming months with even more live interventions from the public! IO TV “the TV is you! ".
