In partnership with the Nature Reserve, the associations Megaptera, Mon École Ma Baleine, Sem' Ta Route, the Agoa Sanctuary, the Rotary Club and the Tourist Office, Metimer is launching the first edition of the "Whale Festival" which will take place will take place this Sunday at the BO.

From 14 to 19 p.m., discovery workshops, activities and craft stands will take over the village square with the aim of informing and raising awareness among the public, young and old alike, about this giant of the seas that the can currently be seen in the waters of Saint Martin. Indeed, humpback whales gather in the area to breed and give birth between January and June. The various organizers of this unique event are unanimous: it is essential to preserve this seasonal breeding area and the public is a major player in this preservation. The idea of going to meet him by putting the whale in the spotlight for a day therefore imposed itself. In addition to recalling the strict rules in force concerning the observation of large marine mammals, the intention of the organizers is also to appeal to those who wish to train as "whale watchers" to have the ability to approach the whales at a distance between 100 and 300 meters by respecting the said rules while participating in maintaining an up-to-date census of marine animals. This Whale Festival will therefore be an opportunity to meet scientists and discuss this sensitive topic with them. Two conferences will be offered at the Théâtre de la Chapelle. The first will be free and dedicated to children, from 16 p.m. to 17 p.m. The second, for adults, will start at 18 p.m. until 19:30 p.m. with an entry price of €10. To the delight of the little ones, a drawing contest has been launched for children to express their artistic flair, inspired directly by this majestic sea animal. The winning drawing will be used to illustrate the poster for the next edition of the Fête de la Baleine and the authors of the three most beautiful drawings will win a boat trip with their guide aboard the Scoobydoo. The drawings are to be deposited in A4 format on the Metimer stand this Sunday from 14 p.m. _VX
