A 22-year-old appeared Thursday morning before the Saint-Martin local court for driving a vehicle without a driver's license.

On February 16, JD was arrested by the gendarmes during a traffic check at the Bellevue roundabout. He is driving the car, a friend is next to him. JD quickly admits to the gendarmes that he does not have a driving license. He explains that he drove because his sick friend could not drive and wanted him to go home.

This is not the first time that the young man has been arrested for driving without a license. He is still not registered with a driving school. He explains at the bar that he has not yet done so because "he lacked his birth certificate". “It is not complicated to obtain this document sir, you were born in Saint-Martin, there is no difficulty in the community issuing it to you”, retorts the judge.

“Mr. D. has not yet grasped the interest of going without a driving licence. He has not yet taken any steps since his check on February 16, 2022, ”continues the prosecutor. It requires a sentence of 120 hours of community service within 18 months.

The court finds him guilty and sentences him to 100 hours of community service to be performed within 18 months, failing which 3 months' imprisonment if the sentence is not carried out. (soualigapost.com)
